The French Development Agency (AFD) will continue working with the Royal Government of Cambodia on the Kingdom’s socio-economic development.
The commitment was underlined here at the Peace Palace this morning when Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia received Ms. Marie-Helene Loison, Deputy Director General of AFD.
In the meeting, Ms. Marie-Helene Loison expressed her continued strong support for Cambodia’s development under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet as Cambodia and AFD have long-standing relationship and cooperation.
The deputy director general said AFD’s programme in Cambodia has mainly focused on a number of key areas, including rural development, water resources management, irrigation, clean water, finance, banking, and green finance investment.
Ms. Marie-Helene Loison added that AFD will further continue supporting and strengthening the cooperation, especially contributing to the Royal Government of Cambodia’s efforts to graduate from the least develo
ped countries (LDCs) category by 2029.
For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet extended warm welcome to the visit of Ms. Loison and her colleagues to Cambodia as well as thanked AFD for its contribution to Cambodia’s socio-economic development so far.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also briefed the AFD deputy director general on the Royal Government’s goal of promoting and improving the green energy sector and reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, as the clean energy consumption in Cambodia has reached some 62 percent of the total energy consumption and the figure is expected to rise to 70 percent by 2030.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Ms. Marie-Helene Loison also discussed and exchanged views on a number of important areas, including trade and investment attraction policies; initiative to establish a Regional Centre of French Culture and Language in Cambodia to strengthen cultural and linguistic training, people-to-people contacts, sports, tourism and trade; and key strategic plans to ensure energy efficiency
and contribute to climate change mitigation.
