The Ministry of Commerce has called on entrepreneurs and producers to list their products on Alibaba, a leading global e-commerce platform in order to expand Cambodia’s reach in international markets.

H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce made the call at a workshop on ‘Beyond Borders: Bringing Cambodian Products to the Global Market Through Alibaba.com,’ held here on May 27 with the participation of some 350 local entrepreneurs and businessmen.

In her opening speech, the minister highlighted the vast potential of Alibaba’s platform, stressing that this presents a significant opportunity for Cambodian businesses to showcase their products to a massive international audience and increase their export sales.

She encouraged Cambodian companies as well as small and medium enterprises to learn about the possibility of joining Alibaba.com to market and promote the export of Cambodian products to global market.

“By listing their products online, they can boost their sales to international markets,” H.E. Mr
s. Cham Nimul said.

Up to date, about ten Cambodian products have been registered formally to the Alibaba.com, including Sela Pepper, Angkor Bird Nest, Ly Ly Food Industry, etc.

Mrs. Jiali Pan, Director of Alibaba’s International Affairs, said that Alibaba.com will open doors to global market for Cambodian SMEs and entrepreneurs.

‘Through Alibaba.com, Cambodian businesses and SMEs can gain global market accessibility for their products,’ she said at the workshop.

The ministry and Alibaba will officially launch the Cambodia’s national pavilion on the Alibaba.com in September this year in the ASEAN-China Expo in Nanning, Guangxi province, H.E. Cham Nimul pointed out.

The collaboration with Alibaba is part of Cambodia’s broader strategy to boost its digital economy. The Royal Government of Cambodia is investing in infrastructure development and promoting e-commerce adoption among businesses and consumers.

As a small country, Cambodia’s e-commerce sector is still in its early stage of development, but it is
growing rapidly. The partnership with Alibaba will expectedly accelerate this growth and position Cambodia as a key player in the region’s e-commerce landscape, H.E. Minister said.

The Ministry of Commerce and Alibaba Group signed in October 2023 a Memorandum of Understanding to directly sell Cambodian products in the Chinese market as well as ASEAN countries through the eWTP Platform and to promote e-commerce.
