PM attends GCC-ASEAN Summit

Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone attended GCC-ASEAN Summit (ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Oct 20. The summit was co-chaired by Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.

ASEAN and GCC leaders (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Arab Emirates) described the summit as a minestrone in strengthening the cooperation between the two regions. The meeting urged the two regions to strengthen cooperation in potential areas, especially economy, trade, investment, and energy.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of promoting tourism and people to people and cultural exchange, and cooperation on human resource development, education, vocational training, and capacity building.

Delivering remarks at the meeting, Prime Minister Sonexay called on ASEAN and GCC to explore cooperation on energy, agriculture, connectivity, and tourism.

PM Sonexay also informed the meeting about Laos’ ASEAN chairmanship in 2024.

He also pledged to work with other ASEAN member countries and GCC countries to promote the cooperation between the two regions to bring great benefits to peoples of the two regions.
